His father was a tuna boat owner and his mother invested
heavy in real estate. When he lived in Africa he ran a successful
pizza business and when he came over to Australia, he bought
a coffee shop at a busy mall. He went broke from the overheads
and investing unwisely in the stock exchange.

There is a bit more to it but that will do.

Bottom line is, he chickened out when it came to going off to an unknown
war. No one can force people to stay in the military in my country at least
I don't believe they're so lucky in overseas armies and services.
