I  would be the first to agree that eating healthily is paramount, that a balanced diet is important. But – and there’s a big but coming here - the suggestion today from a leading family doctor that chocolate may be ‘major’ cause of obesity here in the UK and as such should be taxed in the same way cigarettes has set my blood boiling.

As far as I understand and I’m no medic, eating chocolate isn't going to affect anyone else in the way secondary inhalation of cigarette smoke can. Eating chocolate all day and every day like any other food is not good but to lump chocolate and cigarettes together is insane.

“Taxing the treat would raise its profile as an unhealthy food which can contribute to weight-related conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure and back pain,” states Dr David Walker from Lanarkshire.

I wonder, is this yet another covert way to gather more taxes?

Brown needs to give bailouts to bankrupt or to be bankrupt companies and he needs cash.

Taxing chocolates would jus give parents a gud excuse, that they are expensive so they can keep away their children frm cho-coo-late-ss.

Haven't they already got sales tax on chocolate?

If they do adopt a Tax on chocolate, then only a boycott of the product

will cause them pain.

I can see it now, a black market on tax free chocolate, people busted and thrown in jail for avoiding taxes.

Chocolate is way over-rated, infact unless it is eaten with a whole bunch

of sugar, it tastes like ****. Carob product sales will soar though. It is probably the

carob tree industry that have made this an issue to begin with.

I lost 6 kilos and still ate chocolate.

Chocolate isn't fattening but soda drinks are.

Blame them for childhood obesecity.

drs don't have a clue about human nutrition and that is because they don't study it for very long...only 2 weeks apparently....the last time I heard. Dietitians study human nutrition, not doctors.

I have a hard time believing that chocolate is a leading cause
of obesity or even a factor!  I think sugary and diet soft drinks
are the major culprit.  Chocolate is good for you, especially dark
choco.  It is rich in antioxidants & mood enhancing.  (in moderation, of course).
Nothing good can be said about POP.

yep, I agree 100%.

I hate doctors anyway.....they're idiots....rarely do you find one that is any good.....they are OK for fixing a broken bone but that is about it.

You're right though.  Most are quacks and don't know ****.
My neighbours doctor couldn't even properly diagnose an
appendicitus.  That's just crazy in my opinion.

The medical book I used to have describing symtoms sounded alike.

It is pretty amazing how they can find anything when symptoms all sound the same.

Our FDA is a sham.  I don't trust anything they
say or approve or disapprove.  Period.

Chocolate is allowed to contain 3% cockroach ****, anymore and it is deemed a health risk.
