A couple a days ago, a 51 yr old bank manager was taken by a Great White not far from me....known locally as "White Pointers"....the usual spiel about we're in their territory has come up again....but in the past few years, every year, we're seeing someone eaten and I think it is time to cull this man eater.....I do NOT believe for one second they're on the endangered list.

What are your thoughts about man eating sharks?...I've been arguing about this at another board and I'll shift over the posts and you can be the judge.

Seriously people, if you want to swim where there are sharks YOU take your life into your own hands.
Sharks do not hunt us out, they are not man eaters....attacks are simply a case of mistaken identity.
You look like a seal or turtle floating around on the surface and if they bite a piece out of you....bad luck....you have chosen to enter their domain. Same as if you are wandering around the savanna in Africa....a lions eats you...bad luck.
Oh and for anyone living in the Newcastle region...a number of great whites are living not far off the coast of Stockton Beach. best to avoid the area.

I don't find them fascinating at all.

All they are, are the waste disposal units of the ocean.

The best place for sharks is in Chinese soup.

There are simply too many sharks and need to be culled, heavily and NOT protected at all.

One person is being killed EVERY year....

That is simply outrageous.

**** the sharks....get rid of them, they're not needed.

Caskur,
I can only hope you are just being silly with those comments. Without sharks our oceans would be a mess. Like all animals, it has a reason for living.

Absolutely NOT. I am being deadly serious.

Well that is a sad attitude to have.

The day I think a shark's life comes before a fellow human being, is the day I top myself off!

Caskur,
Of course humans are more important but if you venture into their territory and come out worse for wear....it isn't the sharks fault.

Any shark attack close to the beach is probably due to a 'gutter'.

If the natural order of predators are hunting in close to shore gutters, there's a good chance that they're also being hunted in these parallel to shore gutters.

A very good reason to not dilly dally in gutters.

My brother is crayfisherman....

he said the waters in WA are infested with sharks.

Anyone seeing the TV a couple of years back and that female whale fighting off 200 or 300 sharks over 4 day period in WA's Nth/west, shouldn't be in any doubt as to the massive population of them...

who knows why they're so many?....maybe there are more sharks because whaling is over and there is more food for sharks....maybe they're swimming here cuz Asian waters are fished out....but listening to fuckwits on the net claiming its their territory is bizzarre.....deadly snakes and spiders and crocodiles are land lovers....are we living in their territory too?....Of course we are but do we offer them a human sacrifice once a year? I think not.

See how stupid they sound when they bleat that rubbish?

In the last 5 yrs or so, someone has been eaten by a white pointer..EVERY year.

You're an idiot!

Best you look in the mirror when you say that Caskur.

You best re-access your attitude to human life first!

I have but if humans do things that are life risking, it is in their own hands.

caskur makes a point.............we have invaded land and built our homes occupied by snakes and spiders.............why should we kill them if they attack

I don't believe they are endangered either.

I have always loved swimming really far out
in the ocean (so far that I could not see the shore)
My sister and I were on rafts one year and again
we were wayyyyyyyyyyy out there.  We were SPOOKED
by what looked like a shark fin but to this day I don't
know if it was or not.  We both panicked and frantically
started making our way to shore but my sister kept
draggin me under as we were freaked out.

That was the last time I went so far out.

I think we have a rogue one.

The problem is, they have learned that "boats" mean food for them.....the tourist boats feed them so the tourists get to see what they are doing.

That is so wrong in my view.

Two years ago, a 15 yr old surfer was eaten....it is just not on....it wouldn't have been tolerated in earlier times.

Sharks eat anything.

People have opened their guts and seen tools in there.

They aren't as bright as people have you believe.

They've got footage of two sharks hunting a surfer.....the only thing that saved the sth african kid from being eaten was the fact, the first shark went for his board and knocked him off.

Here is the youtube of it....it was miraculously captured on video.

It is amazing since it proves they hunt in a pack too...they work together.

That kid didn't know there were two sharks and apparently he was attacked again, two years later around the same spot.
