MEN might like to brag about their "construction skills", but it is women who are better when it comes do-it-yourself tasks.

MEN might like to brag about their "construction skills", but it is women who are better when it comes do-it-yourself tasks, according to a furniture store boss.

Petra Hesser, head of the Ikea's German operation, whose 70 percent of the clientele was formed by women, revealed that the fairer sex was undisputed winner when it came to putting together flat-packed furniture.

"Men never look at the directions and have the most problems with construction because they always think they can do that," Telegraph.co.uk reports.

"It is all down to women approaching the task calmly and following instructions from beginning to end.

"The woman first sorts the parts in an orderly way. Men throw them in a pile and then something goes missing."

Psychologist Gladeana McMahon said women were better at "multi-tasking" along with being more patient, which contributed to their title of being more skilled at DIY.

"Men often joke about women not being very good at DIY but it is not the case at all. Women are far more patient and look at things in a much calmer way than men," she said.

"But women take it more in their stride and, importantly, are not afraid to ask for help. Men won't ask for help often because they see it as an affront to their masculinity."

I agree.  I really have no patience for DIY tasks.  My wife is much better at them than I am.

What are you like with maps and getting lost Hellstrom?

Are you the type of man that keeps driving or will you stop to and check where you are?

I actually stop and get directions;  I hate wandering around.

I find it pointless to just wander around.  As soon as something looks like we're lost, I stop to get directions.
