Several years ago, one of my chickens (now deceased due to ending its life cycle) laid a humungous egg. Tonight on the Channel 7 news in Perth, there is another family whose chook laid a large egg and they’re going for the record…

They want to sell it on ebay….lol

Well I wouldn’t buy one… the poor chicken who survived laying mine survived the laying at the time BUT I never got mine recorded officially. It did feature on the inside cover of our local state newspaper The West Australian under Liam Bartlett’s column and I still have a copy of that.

We took the egg to the vet where he explained that as one egg is coming down the tube another one comes down and covers it (don’t ask me how) and they both grow together….

Inside the egg were two things…a normal yoke with white and another smaller egg…. I actually never cracked open the small egg inside the big one to see but I assume it had a wet content…lol… and funnily enough just before mum’s birthday, I finally threw them out….it was too dusty to bother with cleaning. I kept the two eggs in a little Chinese bowel for years.

I had lots of pictures of it once but these are the only surviving ones I think unless someone else saved them from me posting this before at msn.

There are 3 eggs on this plate… the smallest brown one is a regular sized egg laid by a young chook… the middle sized one is about the largest shop bought you’ll purchase, and the big one, well no one eats them, they’re just glanced in awe and much empathy for the poor chicken passing it.

That egg is news worthy!  I've never seen such a large
chicken egg in my life!  What are you feeding those chickens?

Nah, mine was about 7 or 8 years ago and funnily enough, right before mum's birthday, I threw it out a couple of months ago.

My husband broke it to see what was inside and sure enough, an egg came out with another shelled egg... we went to the vet and he explained how it happens...

I kept my egg in a little china dish on top of that china cabinet near my computer.... the top was thick with dust and rather than clean the egg, i tossed it out...

it made the newspaper at the time... I emailed the picture to the papers with my phone number....they rang me for permission to print it... it went on the inside cover of our states newspaper...
