Maybe she is trying to reinvent herself because she doesn't like who she is.  This could explain the male and female alts.  Possibly she is a male in a female's body.
Then again, years of being flamed and humiliated on the web could explain all of this, too.  Hard to imagine what it would be liked flamed and humiliated time and time again in front of thousands of people.  It must take it's toll after a while.
