Title: The Weather Thread
Post by: caskur™ on November 22, 2008, 10:10:54 am
Well tonight it is Saturday and supposedly my rooster day for watering with sprinklers. We get Saturdays and Wednesdays to water using a sprinkler. We can water everyday but we must do so by hand.....that is our summertime watering restrictions to get us through long dry summer and guess what?

Tonight it is pouring down with sky juice thus saving me running inside and outside to shift bloody sprinklers all night....

What is your weather today?

Ah it is so beautiful in Perth this morning. I just poked my nose out the front door and one of my Jacaranda trees is dropping mauve coloured blossoms all over the driveway….such a pretty velvety mess…..I think I’ll go and get myself a McDonald brekkie…..1 sausage and egg mcmuffin, 1 hash brown and one cappuccino.

it rained a lot during the night and the birds are chirping on this fine Sunday morning.....

btw, I posted this at Megan's group on the 10th. I should have posted it here too, sorry...

This morning 10th of December 2008 in Perth we had wonderful, wonderful rain and at the crack of dawn, there appeared a rainbow outside my window….btw, that rainbow’s end is landing on my sister’s giant gum tree.

Now this afternoon we are still getting wonderful, wonderful rain…AGAIN and the great thing about it, Wednesday is my watering rostered day….so I don’t have to run around shifting a damn sprinkler….yayyyy…

It is more like spring weather, changeable weather.

Today is overcast and BEAUTIFUL.....I hope Christmas will be lovely like today.......so far summer has been mild with only one day that hit 100.4+ F.  :'(

I'll start taking pictures from different locations. I'm sure people are getting sick of seeing my environment from one angle.

 ;D

Ours was only 23 C. [73.4 F] today....PERFECT.

I was thinking about Americans today and what they should have done when everyone else switched over to metric. I think the Americans should have at least went metric with temperature because that is the easiest to learn since saying something is "23 C" you immediately know what that feels like.

If someone says today it is going to be 40 C you know that is going to be 100.4 and you're going to die....LOL or at least spend the whole day in a pool.

I've learned metric. I hated it. I don't know why everyone in the world changed to the metric ways. I know how to convert temps from one to the other. I know how many miles are in a meter and so on.

Title: Re: The Weather Thread
Post by: caskur™ on December 21, 2008, 10:26:59 pm
Temperature was the easiest because when they tell you its 23 C today, you know what that feels like so converting to temperature was the easiest.

It switched over AFTER I learned the old system first.....so I still run around converting everything and that is a pain when I have to talk to Americans and adjust my posts accordingly.

WOW beautiful pics.  I guess I'm going to have

I think the rainbow is my fave.

I was trying to get it from all angles. I wished I had a wide lense camera then I wouldn’t have to take suck poky shots.

That was a sheer fluke capturing that rainbow at the crack of dawn.

It says I've read this thread 36 times?
Also, it's timing my session & I really
don't want to see that.  Some things

like to get a timer apparatus for my

I think we have a cyclone in the North West of WA which makes Perth a tad humid but not uncomfortably so.

It is midnight here Friday.....later on today, [friday] we will have a temp of 38C which is over 100 F

a couple of days ago in the outback of Western Australia [far north] it was 132 F......and a **** load of finches and native budgies died looking for water.....they flew to a place you might call a diner, and all tried to drink from the barrels of water outside near the taps and thousands died in the water.

I made a mistake too....it wasn't 55 C it was 45 C [113 F] .....and I have experience 46 C [114.8F] twice in my lifetime and that was 2 times, too many...  (http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q260/caskur_2006/Smilies/cry.gif)

Please look at these pictures of the Overlander Road House who collected thousands of thirsty, hot and dying budgies and finches, native Australian birds.

Perth sets January heat record

Posted 3 hours 50 minutes ago
Updated 3 hours 36 minutes ago

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/01/16/2468149.htm

Perth has recorded its hottest start to January on record.
The mean temperature from the start of January until today is 34.6 degrees Celsius. [98.24 F ]

Weather bureau spokesman Rabi Rivett says today's temperature peaked at almost 42 C [107.6 F] , but he says a cool change is expected for the weekend.

"Given we have had a very good start, given we get to stay on such a standard path, we could see some records there," he said.
"We are seeing a cool change for tomorrow and the weekend but then again warming up into next week."

they are going to FRY....poor bastards

and they are worried we are going to have another Ash Wednesday

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ash_Wednesday_fires

The Ash Wednesday fires were a natural disaster that occurred in south-eastern Australia on 16 February 1983. Within twelve hours, more than 180 fires fanned by winds of up to 110 km (68 mph) per hour caused widespread destruction across the states of Victoria and South Australia.[3] Years of severe drought and extreme weather combined to create one of Australia’s worst fire days in a century. [4] The fires remain the worst bushfire disaster in Australian history, claiming 75 lives.

It snowed last night and most of the day on and off.
We didn't get a massive amount but enough to play in.
Now it's misting ice.  A beautiful wintry mix.  They finally
came to plow AFTER I went grocery shopping.  I used
my 4wd & I was okay till I got home and tried to back
into the garage.  That's the only time I slid a little bit.

It was 27 the last time I checked but that was way
earlier when I was still out and about.

Adelaide suffers through hottest day in 70 years
The Weather Bureau says Adelaide's hottest day on record was 46.1 degrees in January 1939.

That was yesterday  :o ….the news on my TV said, it got to 46.7 C today ….hottest day in 100 years…. >:D

46 C = 116.06 F

Apparently railway lines buckled.

Some places got to 47 C = 116.60

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/01/28/2476708.htm

Ambulance officers in Melbourne had to treat three people for heat stress and the extreme conditions led to train and tram cancellations in both Victoria and South Australia, frustrating overheated commuters.

I have personally experienced over 47 C 117…..twice in my life……yep….and I can live to tell the tale….NO AIR CONDITIONING either..

there is a little cloud about and perhaps a lightening storm...it is warm and was humid today...

largely in my state, uneventful,...  BUT tomorrow may change that if lightening starts any fires....

I do not want a repeat of what is going on in Victoria. The fires there are not out far from it....I think there is about 14 fires but don't quote me on that one....it might be 17 or something

181 confirmed dead....they haven't found everyone.

1831 homes destroyed.

7,000 people homeless...

about a million wild animals are dead....

1 billion has been raised apparently but 2 billion is needed...everyone is behind the victims and one suspect arsonist has been arrested...

some good footage here too [last time I looked]

http://flamedamnation.smfforfree4.com/index.php/topic,748.0.html

Good news....the Queen sent a personal donation but the amount is private. I am so warmed by her doing that.....She really has shown concern....Prince Charles spent a year in Melbourne in 1966 as part of his education and has been to those towns that burned down.

like to the grocery store.

lightening is awesome but unfortunately kills a lot of people AND starts bush fires....I have a fantastic picture of Australia Day 2006. Australia Day is like the American 4th of July Day....we have fireworks and the like. The picture I have is of a very fierce lightening storm happening out at sea while out fire works were on in the capital city,f Perth. Lightening actually struck the fire works boats and set one on fire.

I snagged this from an MSN group....this is Perth Australia Day, 2006..that is the Swan River....the fireworks are on in the Perth City....and West is where the lightening Storm is coming in from the Indian Ocean...I think that night was the most power storm I have ever experienced.....and it was scary and insane.

That's weird, I just made a fairly long post (surprise) and it's gone.

Anyway....

That's an awesome picture! I am dying to visit Australia; I had plans to go in '04 but I had to cancel. My cousin Liam has a sheep station outside Adelaide and he keeps bugging me to visit, but with the economy the way it is I can't risk taking three months off to go on vacation, and it's not a place where you can spend only 2 weeks - you need a couple of months to get a real feel for a place.

I wish I were still a kid. I just took off for Europe for a few months when I was 19. No responsibilities, just me an my gay friend Jesse holed up in a dive hotel in Paris. We even went to Greece and Morocco (Morocco is NOT a place for the paranoid, by the way - there's like no alcohol anywhere, but they have ridiculously strong hash). It was a blast.

Why not for the paranoid? Does that have something to do with the hash?

Our weather is somewhat mild here. I think it might rain soon.

Yeah, if you smoke that **** while you're there it'll make you freak out - it's hot, it's dusty, all the trains seem to be built to carry livestock rather than people, and it's just...I dunno, very CLOSE feeling. I smoked a chunk and ended up holed up in my icky hotel room all night, lol.

It's 41 and sunny in NY at 8:37. I should be working, huh? My boss is gonna kill me if she finds out I play on the web all day while I'm here (well, I work too, but I always have one board open while I'm in my office).

Cottesloe pylon toppled by storms

Cottesloe's beach pylon was snapped by the strong seas swept up by the storms that lashed WA overnight. Photo: Chris Thomson

The savage storms that hit WA this week have felled a state icon, with the Cottesloe pylon snapped by wild weather overnight.

Beachgoers awoke to find the crumbling pylon, which has served as a diving platform for generations of Perth swimmers, toppled into the surf today.

The pylon was originally erected in 1936 as part of a grand scheme to create a shark-proof pool at Cottesloe, and became the beach's defining feature.

Last year the Cottesloe council and Lotterywest chipped in $170,000 to save the pylon, which had become unsafe for swimmers.

Second front bears down

The Bureau of Meteorology has this morning issued a severe weather warning, with a deep low pressure system to the south-west of the state expected to produce widespread damaging winds of up to 100kmh. This could result in damage to property around the lower-west, south-west, south-coastal, south-east coastal and adjacent Great Southern today.

-----------------------------

Send us your storm photos. Email tipoffs@watoday.com.au

-----------------------------

In isolated areas, locally destructive gusts in excess of 125kmh might cause significant damage to property and isolated thunderstorms and small hail were also possible.

In the waters, surf conditions were forecast to be heavy while significant beach erosion could take place.

The State Emergency Service is advising people to put away or weigh down loose objects, move vehicles under cover and stay inside away from windows. Boat owners should ensure boats are securely moored.

This is what it should look like...

this is the only bit of lawn I have now....the front verge and that is owned by the council, [council verge]

they won't let us use a sprinkler except on designated days and only after 6 pm at night and before 9 am in the morning.....it was killing me staying up all night on my designated days....so I said **** it....

if our drought goes on and people keep wasting water, there is going to be 100 % sprinkler ban and if we want to have a nice green garden, we have to hand water for hours on end or we get fined 100 bucks....

so if you don't have water problems where you are....just remember, the more people waste it, the more your wet areas and lakes dry up and then when your dams are low, they'll restrict your use or fine you...

I pay someone 22 bucks to come and mow it and do the edges...

I only use the well water for hand watering the flowers and garden.  This area has irrigation water diverted from the creek for the farms - homes get to use it when the farmers aren't using it.  Sometimesthere's lots of water, sometimes there's no water for days at a time.

Yes, it is a precious, precious resource and you never know when there will be a drought....it is all quite scary really....they're predicting another drought for Australia so everyone must be careful BUT how can you stop selfish people having long showers?....you can't....and old people who don't realize their pipes are leaking and a whole bunch of other other man made but largely preventable problems?..

I went to college at the Fremantle Jail which is a tourist attract now BUT they rented the workshop to TAFE so I got to go to school in a magnificent historical building built by convict labour...

This is the entrance but we didn't go through there.....to the left of the building were the prison workshops, .......and very far right were the surgeons quarter which was a stately home at one time.....that was also part of our classrooms..

look how absolutely cruel the size of these cells were......absolutely barbaric to keep men inside these and this prisone was still used until the prisoners burned it all down in 1988...

I went outside 2 minutes after I got off the net, sat in my lounge chair on the veranda and the weather came....a massive hail storm and I **** myself....I was stuck there ....it didn't last long...maybe 5 minutes abut it seemed like 20 minutes....I thought the roof was going to smash in...the hail wasn't bigger than rain drops though....no big clumps or else people with tiled rooves would not have one anymore..

Look what I have…..two new chicks…..$9.00 each. We’ve put them under the bantam…..tomorrow morning, she’ll be a mother.

I have a broody bantam so now she’ll be a mother for the first time…lol…I hope it is successful or we’ll be $18.00 out of pocket.

When you have a broody hen sitting on unfertilized eggs, you can remove the eggs and place babies there as long as you do it at night and take the eggs away, the hen in none the wiser….for now, they’re sitting on top of the computer for your inspection…they’re too old actually…you’re supposed to do it with day old chicks but it wasn’t to be.

She has accepted them....this morning she is running around all puffed up and proud...

it is damn cute...

It did work....it is fantastic..

she took to the babies straight away and what is more, they took to her as well....I've got it filmed my mobile...

you must do this when the chicken and this case a bantam has been on the eggs [hahahah real golf balls] for 3 weeks....you just take out the golf balls and slip the babies in overnight and then take the fake eggs away and whallah,..instant family....

I've separated them into the huge abandoned budgie aviary I have so the other chickens don’t kill them or cats get to them and they’re all safe and happy.

I remember years ago being the mum and using a bloody old lampstand turned upsided down where they huddle under a light globe for warmth….thank goodness for broody chooks or we’d be stuffed….lol

Awww they are adorable.
I got chicks for the kids
one Easter.  Then they
turned into full grown chickens.
The dog loved chasing them and
they would run around the yard but
I finally gave them to a neighbour who
had a chicken coup & actually raised chickens.

Title: Re: The Weather Thread
Post by: caskur™ on October 31, 2009, 12:41:48 pm
they grow really quick...they're over a week old...I am amazed that the mother took to them but I had heard Bantams are excellent mothers....

that bantam belonged to my deceased BIL....we got his chickens + 1 bantam.....and added them to our flock...the bantam doesn't hang with the other chickens and makes a real racket at times....now she isn't lonely anymore.

That's a six foot plus fence.  It's actually a privacy fence, I think the snow
makes it look low.  LOL  Yes, my place backs to the woods.  Maybe 500 acres
of woods but they have plans to build which sucks donkey balls.  I like having
the woods behind me.  That's where the bears hang out.  We've got pics

She doesn't like to be out in the cold unless there is
snow to play in though.  My other dog loves being
out in the cold and tries to stay away from the fireplace
and the heating vents.  He hates hot weather.  They
look alike but they are completely opposite weather wise.

I think lucy will love swimming.  I can't wait to see her this
summer because she has never seen hot weather.  She was
born in September so it was already getting cold out, I mean
we had a few warm days but mostly winter since she's been
alive.  She will love the summer.

but relief is on the way apparently....

a storm coming....thank god...

http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/perth-braces-for-hot-stormy-weather/story-e6frg1rc-1225833073640

STORMY weather is forecast to hit Perth this week as the city continues to experience one of the hottest summers on record.

A deep trough is expected to bring storms on Wednesday and Thursday, as temperatures nudge 40C, the WA Bureau of Meteorology predicts.

The wet change will end Perth’s driest summer on record.

But bureau forecaster James Ashley says the storms are not likely to bring a huge amount of rain.

"It's hard to say with these things and I don't like to put a number on it but it's likely to be around five to 10mm," Mr Ashley said.

Widespread thundery showers hit the metropolitan area in January, but very little rainfall has been recorded at the bureau's Mt Lawley site since November 20, when just 0.6mm fell.

The summer average rainfall is 35.1mm, since December just 0.2mm has fallen in the same city gauge.

Mr Ashley says the storms are most likely to hit Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon.

“Early Wednesday will be the most active period, but it’s certainly not going to be wild.  It’s a normal old thunderstorm,” Mr Ashley said.

“Thursday there is also the chance of a storm in the afternoon with a lot of heat and if there is enough moisture."

Forecast for the week
Tuesday      Sunny.                                 Min 21     Max 36
Wednesday    Storm risk.                            Min 24     Max 38
Thursday     Storm risk.                            Min 24     Max 39
Friday       Sunny.                                 Min 24     Max 37
Saturday     Sunny.                                 Min 24     Max 38
Sunday       Very hot. Sunny.                       Min 24     Max 41

Here you go....

Our drought just ended with a big bang…..hail, 117 km wind gusts, lightening,  beautiful, beautiful rain….16,000 homes without power and domestic flights have been cancelled.

I tried to get shots of lightening but alas, its too quick for me…

People probably don't know what its like to have a drought break and relief it brings....its also the biggest storm in a decade in Perth...hail was smashing car windows of commuters coming home from work

Well I went outside to sit on my veranda which faces the storm but I have an old leather chesterfield lounge out there and some clear sheeting up to look at my out view and I was driven inside from the ferocity of it… anyway, its made the national news…..it went very dark when the huge cluster of clouds went over spitting out lightning and thunder and huge hail stones,… I ate one….lol...

Here is the flood damage JB…. You obviously don’t know what a flash flood means…lol

another storm is coming...  Hail caused a lot of damage last night.....that is why I chose a tin roof instead of tiles... I see what happens to tile roofs in the E.S. when they get a hail storm....we got the total of 3 months worth of average rainfall, for this time of year, dumped on us in one hour... :giggle: It was awesome but scary at the same time..

I posted this picture # 59 in this thread earlier during the storm, inbetween being cut off the net...lol...you cannot get news fresher than that...lol

While Perth suffered the hottest, driest November on record, the East coast of Australia are in the grip of floods and the towns are evacuated….

Yesterday I had a BBQ at my sisters place and it was overcast and we were told it was going to rain… well, we got nothing. It’s very depressing to see rain type clouds just pass on by….

A few moments ago, we go the tiniest sprinkle from a sky that is still overcast however, that sent the cockies into a frenzy and they tried to suck some moisture of the air…. There was about a hundred flying around and sitting on my roof but about 35 sitting on the neighbours aerial…. Its so cool having native birds buzzing around the suburbs but they have no choice. The surban sprawl is taking their habitat and they’re coming closer to Fremantle as the trees near me are large and established.

100.4 F for Perth Christmas Day

Heatwave tipped for Christmas Day in Perth

SIZZLING: Perth beaches will be a popular option for thousands of families on Christmas Day with an expected maximum of 38C. Picture: Andrew MacColl Source: Herald Sun

IT'S going to be a white-hot Christmas Day in Perth as forecasters predict a heatwave, starting on Friday.
While Britain battles blizzards, metropolitan Perth can expect a hot and muggy 38C for Christmas Day and 36C for Boxing Day.

Bureau of Meteorology forecasters say the city's maximum average of 31.6C for Christmas Day will topple, but conditions won’t be anything like the record-breaking 2007 festive period, where families packed Perth beaches as Christmas Day nudged 41C, followed by 44.2C on Boxing Day.
Last year Christmas Day was a balmy 35C.

Bureau meteorologist Rabi Rivett said the hot spell will be caused by a ridge of high pressure, which causes air to sink and warm, currently developing in the south of the state.

“The rain today and over the next couple of days is associated with the tropical low that brought the rain to Carnarvon and that will disperse over the next couple of days,” Mr Rivett said.

“There will be a high in the south of the state by Wednesday and that is going to maintain off shore winds over the next few days.

“On Christmas Day it does look like it (the trough) will stay offshore for the morning and possibly for a good part of the afternoon. Even though it might go inland late in the afternoon we could still see very high temperatures for Perth.”

What's ahead
Today
Showers.
Max 24

Tuesday
Shower or two, mainly in the morning.
Max 29

I think think this article is wrong… it went over 100 F last year. It was hell.

That is terrible.... when I have told you about us have 0 or -1 very rare but does happen.... that is really is 32 F..... so I cannot imagine anything lower than that...

I also note that when America is having extreme weather, so are we.... it must be related somehow....

its 35 C today... tomorrow is going to be a tad higher and then there are going to be 4 days of 40 C and that is way, way over 100F...

There will be lots of people downtown tonight - many will go to Deadwood where there's legalized gambling.

Now that I am getting my camera settings on video I will take short ones... it only lets me take 80 second or 20 second of soundless tape.... of course, the 80 seconds is poorer quality...but you will get an impression on what its like walking out my front door in the late afternoon.... I will take one in the morning sun tomorrow, (if I remember) this is the first one... I was testing quality and seeing if photobucket would let me load... remember, this has poor quality... and going up to the front door from inside is no way as dark as this either...its very light but inside without the flash going, it appears dark in pictures.

Does clicking the picture work? Please let me know.

The only thing I don’t like about the bantams is that they teach the babies to be timid of humans and chickens aren’t like that…. They love people…. I don’t know whether that is because we got a white bantam as an adult and a black one as well as an adult, or if their nature is like that anyway. I have only ever kept chickens, pekin ducks (also timid or wary of people) budgies and Cockatiels ….

Cyclone Yasi - too late to evacuate...

Cyclone Tracy, Christmas eve 1974 wiped Darwin off the map... that was Category 4 with an eye 15 kms wide. This one has an eye apparently more than twice the size...

the sad thing about Tracy was, no one knew for 3 days, an Australian capital city was gone.... they're all getting plenty of water and the South West corner of the continent where I live is in drought....   .....

and they call us "the Lucky country"..... winds expected over 300 kms (186+ miles per hour)

..."I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!"...

Yep.... they're cramming people in smaller lots because they want to stop the urban sprawl .... there is too much natural bush disappearing to new suburbs and they claim want that one minute but eventually they do bulldose the bush.... they keep eating into the bush.... we original habitants hate that.... so does the wildlife.

Small rock chips have a nasty tendency to turn into big cracks due to temperature contrasts our vehicles experience during the harsh winter months. And yes, my windshield is border line legal, but the cops let a lot slide until well into spring. They have no choice really.

Thanks for the video!

We as well. Maybe we could stand to learn something from all the going ons in the Middle East as in late...

a piece of real life.... where there is smoke, there is a house on fire.

I've noticed in your video series that your house is mostly brick, so you probably don't worry too much about fires, eh?

It's 4F and snowing - looks like it will be a good day to stay inside for awhile.

I wish more people would opt to stay inside here. All the new Canadians don't know their arse from a hole in the ground when it comes to driving in winter conditions. I always hope that our harsh winters will make them want to return to wherever the heck they came from. But unfortunately in most cases, it doesn't...

Wow! Grapes!

I had grapes in Wyoming but they were dark red and quite bitter - good for jelly with LOTS of sugar.

It's up to -5F after -6 earlier.  Supposed to start warming up after tomorrow.

That sounds good to me...

the only thing I will miss about summer if the long daylight... this was our worst summer yet.

at least I have air condtioning now as I am richer and older... but when I was young and poorer, I had no such luxuries and when I think about it, no one did.

Abrupt end to Perth's Indian Summer
Alex Zadnik, Tuesday April 5, 2011 - 12:49 EST
Perth has just experienced a record breaking run of autumn heat but it's all going to come to an abrupt halt on Thursday.

March was the hottest on record for the city and we have recently broken a record of consecutive days above 30 degrees. Tuesday 5th April is expected to be the 16th consecutive day above 30 degrees, smashing the previous autumn record of 12 set in 1998.

Wednesday will be the last day of warmth for some time, with a strengthening cold front bringing an increase in cloud and wind as it approaches late in the day. Brisk southwest winds will sweep through Perth on Thursday morning with the front, bringing showers and the coldest conditions in around 4-5 months.

Rainfall totals will probably only reach 1-5mm across the city on Thursday but could exceed 10mm through coastal suburbs. Despite the small rainfall totals, the showers will be welcome, given there has been nothing in the official gauge since the 1st February.

Perth will struggle to reach the low 20's on Thursday, so it looks like being the coldest days since last spring. The wintry chill will come as quite a shock to the system, as there hasn't been a maximum below 25 degrees since January.

PERTH got a soaking today with more than 30mm of rain dumped on some parts of the city.

By 5pm, Perth had recorded 26mm, Bickley in the hills south-east of Perth received a drenching of 33.6mm, while Rottnest got 27.6mm, Swanbourne 27.2mm, and Jandakot 30mm.

The Bureau says showers and thunderstorms would continue around the Perth area into this evening, but the heaviest rain had passed.

A thick band of thunderstorms throughout the day made driving conditions treacherous, but a Road Weather Alert that was issued had been cancelled.

A heavy cluster of thundery showers, clearly visible on the Bureau of Meteorology radar, hit the city around midday and dumped heavy showers for several hours.

The downpour prevented any play in the crucial Sheffield Shield match between WA and Queensland, which was due to start today at the WACA.

The SouthWest, Midwest, Central Wheatbelt and the Great Southern also received showers.

Adventure World closed

The inclement weather also brought an early closure at Adventure World in Bibra Lake.

The company announced on its website: "OK, OK enough's enough weather! We are officially going to close the park for the rest of today due to the proximity of lightning.

"If you are a season pass member of know anyone who was thinking of coming this afternoon, please pass the word on. Tomorrow's weather is looking hot and sticky so we look forward to seeing you all for a refreshing day out from 10am!"

Forecast for Friday
Min 18
Max 30
Chance of an early storm.

Partly cloudy. Isolated showers and thunderstorms contracting to the hills during the morning and clearing during the afternoon. Winds easterly 20 to 30 km/h.

This is what 3rd Rail Nongs said about my last sunset...(https://cdn.smfboards.com/Smileys/smf/grin.gif)

Cookie Mobster reckons - “Wow thanks for that ive never seen a sunset before, you know it could be good enough for amatuer photograph competitions....if there are not to many entries...and they are all s hit........like yours.”

NSFW reckons- “He wasn't saying it about the swamp, he was saying it about your photography, stupid. And he's right; your photoshopped offering is unremarkble and mundane - and we can say this because in the forum description it clearly states we can rate the offerings here.

Do better, d ickhead. I expect nothing less than award winning photography from someone of your advanced dotage, you're supposed to improve with age.”

I never said anything about the sunset being “remarkable” In fact, it indeed was most decidedly unremarkable but it was the fist sign of a approaching electrical storm. I turned it into something more than it was by removing some ugly pieces of the neighbours TV aerials, saturating the colour a little and adding the swamp. Meanwhile, that storm did in fact, electrocute 5 people, one sadly is going to die when they turn off the life support.

German backpacker Stefanie Wiedenroth critical in hospital after lightning strike

A YOUNG German backpacker remains in a critical condition she was struck by a freak lightning strike in rural WA on Friday.

Stefanie Wiedenroth was working for a sheep crutching contractor at Muntadgin near Bruce Rock when she was hit just before 9am.

The 22-year-old’s employer Darren Major said he was standing about 25m away from Ms Wiedenroth went down.

“We were getting ready to work and Stefanie was walking around in a paddock getting ready,” he said.

“Right above us it was basically blue skies but just off to the west of us there were clouds brewing but nothing to be concerned about; it was basically just a normal day.

“It was just a freak lightning strike, that’s the only way I can describe it.”

Mr Major said four other people standing close to Ms Wiedenroth at the time the lightning hit were also thrown to the ground but weren’t seriously injured.

“I was next to a truck and a spark jumped from the truck to my side, about a two to three inch spark,” he said.

“I didn’t get pushed over but it certainly made me jump.

“This morning it felt like I’ve woken up after a game of football; the right side of my ribs are sore and it just feels like somebody has punched me in the back of the head on the left hand side.”

Workers performed CPR on Ms Wiedenroth for about six minutes while Mr Major called for help.

They then drove her to Bruce Rock Hospital and she was later flown to Royal Perth Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Shortly after Ms Wiedenroth was hit, Merredin local Ryan Ash photographed the imposing storm in the region.

It is believed this is Ms Wiedenroth’s second solo backpacking trip to Australia and her second trip to Muntadgin in the WA Wheatbelt.

Mr Major said Ms Wiedenroth had many friends in the tight-knit community and was well-liked.

“She’s full of energy, really enjoyed the country lifestyle. She said it was a totally different experience from Germany,” he said.

“We just hope that she pulls through and makes a recovery from this but at this stage I’m not too sure.”

It is believed Ms Wiedenroth’s family are flying into Perth from Germany tomorrow.

Still hot and dry here… with a hint of a rain promise to come… maybe. It’s quite stressful, some rain fell north of Perth but missed us. Someone must be getting our rain somewhere cuz we’re sure as hell aren’t getting any.
